A magnificent youg buck came to visit Gypsy and I today. His velvet antlers were hard to see as he ate the corn we had thrown out at the feeding area near Gypsy's 5ft. high cedar post rabbit fence. I went and got my binoculars and checked him out. He was healthy looking and did not seem overly afraid. Gypsy just laid on the cabin porch and watched him eat. Suddenly he turned and ran away. We don't know what scared him. We looked around the woods, but did not see anything that should have chased him away. It was a windy day and sometimes wild animals are a bit edgy with all the wind movement. Later today, I will go out and spread some more seed and corn at the feeding area. The doves, cardinals, jays, rabbits and deer will surely return to entertain us. Mother Nature holds us in her spell, rejoicing at even the smallest frog that jumps around when we water our flowers. There is never a day we don't see some critter to examine and enjoy. Tarantulas are sitting on tree trunks and on the trim around our garage door. They seem to enjoy being around where we are. My neighbor said to put a string on their leg and take them for a walk. I think I will pass on that.
Our Summer days are here already. We have our 95-75 degree days with little rain. We have noticed the absence of mosquitoes, a good side affect of the dry weather. Last year it rained alot and kept our road under water most of the Summer. It has been very windy, with haze from the burning sugarcane fields in Mexico. We will be glad when those fires go out.
We ate eating tomatoes, peppers, arugula, parsley, and peapods growing in our earth
boxes. Fresh grown produce is always the best. The blackberries may make it in spite of the heat. We are in the doldrums of our hot Summer. Like a sailboat sitting quietly waiting for even a slight breeze to move it on its way. We have found a dimension we did not know existed when we felt if we had one free moment in the day we didn't have enough to do. Over scheduling was a way of life and details filled our time. We actually thought we were accompolishing alot. We were still trying to mother when we should have known for the most part those days were over. Live and learn and run away like the buck.
