its no surprise
we have bats in our belfry
since the drought has given way
to monsoon like rains
that are now shaping our days
as flooding has begun
and cars are disappearing
on water covered roads
its raining our usual meal
of feast after famine
moving unsuspecting critters
to alter their routines so
for the first time ever
gypsys porch was swarming with bats
before the first morning light
had caught hold of the day
she watched them as they
flash by her again and again
when I went to join her
something swooshed by my head
at aleast 500 miles an hour
now there were bats everywhere
circling just under the porch roof
probably eating the mosquitoes
we had complained about
as they eliminated our complaint
later as we watched the gray clouds
and listened to the thunder roll
we did not hear or see
one tiny black mosquito
